To find out which non-hidden communities exist on your BSCW server,
• select in the top menu, whereupon a list of all communities
where you are not a member will be displayed. You can tell by its icon whether a
community is open () or closed (
).
You can now become a member of such a community by
• Select in the
context menu of an open community, which makes you a member immediately, or
• Select in
the context menu of a closed community. This leads to an email form that lists
the community managers as addressees and where you can apply for membership in
the community.
For hidden communities, you can only become a member by explicit invitation of the community manager.
After you become a member, the community disappears from the 'Other communities' folder. The associated workspace appears instead in your personal workspace ('Workspaces of your-username') and in the 'Communities of your-username' folder, which contains the community workspaces of all communities where you are a member. To access this folder,
• Select in
the top menu. Alternatively, you can click on
in the navigation
tree.
The folder 'Communities of your-username' also still contains the entry 'public' with all folders and discussion forums that are publicly accessible.
Leaving a community is possible only for community members in open communities: to do so, remove the related community workspace from the 'Communities from your-username' folder. For closed and hidden communities, you must ask a community manager to uninvite you as a member from the community. You cannot remove the community workspace of closed or hidden communities from the list of your communities yourself.
