Communities may also be used as shared email distribution lists, provided that your BSCW server has been configured by the administrator to send e-mail. By default, any member may send email messages to the whole community. Of course, the members of the associated community workspace may do so as well.
How to send an email message to a community:
• Go to the members page of the community workspace by clicking the icon in the 'Share' column of the workspace entry.
• Select in the context menu of the community (). This will display the 'Send email' form with the community's address already entered in the 'To:' field. Alternatively, you can select the community and then use (-Send email) in the multi-selection toolbar.
If you plan to use a community as a shared email distribution list, the inclusion rule of a hidden or closed community should be chosen and the community role should not include the right to invite or remove members, so that you yourself keep control over the membership. As a community role you should choose e.g. Associate member, but not Member (has the right to delete the whole community) or Manager (has the right to manage the community membership).
