The message overview of the latest messages takes you to individual chats. A chat consists of several messages and can in turn contain further chats.
Figure 4: Message list
The title of the chat is displayed in the header bar - the title can be edited directly here. You can also switch to the parent folder or chat.
In the message history, all messages are mapped chronologically from the oldest (top) to the newest (bottom).
Add a new message to this chat using the input field. If desired, your messages can also be formatted in the process.
Figure 5: Message texts can be formatted
To do this, first select the text to be formatted. A menu appears that can be used to specify the formatting. Alternatively, Markdown is also supported.
Add references to any BSCW objects such as images, videos, folders, tasks or other messages simply by dragging and dropping them into messages.
Figure 6: Thematically nesting messages
In BSCW messages may also be dragged and dropped into other folders or moved thematically into each other. A message element with a submessage is shown below.
Figure 7: Message element
Messages usually show the author and the message text. If a message contains submessages or replies, the title of the chat is also displayed. As soon as you position the cursor over a message, further details become visible.
Below each message you will find icons for reactions. Reactions provide users with an easy way to signal feedback on messages. Thus, they can also be used as a voting tool.
Figure 8: Message element menu
Using the menu, you can edit your own messages at any time, provided that this right is not blocked for you on the corresponding folder. It is also possible to recommend messages to other members. They will then receive the message text as e-mail with reference to the original message in BSCW. Via Information you get, as with any other BSCW object, further details about when messages have been created, edited, or read.
Chats can also be used for ad-hoc surveys or to determine a best answer, more at 2.12.1 Using BSCW elements in the description.
