The menu items for creating objects can be found in four different places on a folder page:
• In the Header you can create objects in the current folder by selectingdesired object type from the menu. For example, with you create a new subfolder of the current folder. The action form has three tabs:
o In the 'General' tab enter name and optionally tags and description.
Note: In BSCW only a restricted
character set may be used for folder and document names. This serves to improve
compatibility with the restrictions of different operating systems (e.g. when
downloading BSCW archives). When you create new folders, you will be notified of
an invalid name (e.g. if it contains one of the characters \ * : ? / < > |
"). In this case you have to correct the name before you can create the folder.
Invalid names of already existing folders or documents from an older BSCW
version are not changed unless your BSCW administrator initiates this or you
duplicate these folders or documents e.g. by copying them.
o If you are the manager of the current workspace, you can define the release process for documents in this folder in the 'Release' tab (details in 12.3 Document sharing) and define whether documents in the new folder should be automatically placed under version control in the 'Automatic Automatic versioning' tab (details in 8.3.6 Automatic versioning).
o Finally, click [OK] to create the new folder.
All actions for creating new objects include an action form where you enter the information that BSCW needs to create the new object. The form depends on the selected object type. For an overview of object types see 4.2 Shared objects.
You can also change the properties of an object once it has been created, by
• You can call in the context menu of the object.
The action form is similar to the action form for creating objects and again depends on the object type. For folders, for example, you can use the 'General', 'Sharing' and 'Automatic versioning' tabs to change the name, description and tags of the folder, as well as adjust the document sharing and automatic versioning settings for the documents contained in the folder (the latter if you are a manager).
Some objects can only be created within certain other objects, e.g. contacts can only be created within contact lists. The creation of communities via the
menu is only possible in your personal workspace ('home folder').
