Personal settings

In BSCW you may set a whole set of parameters, the so-called personal or user preferences, that determine the appearance and functionality of your BSCW user interface. This allows you to customize your user interface: a common workspace does not necessarily have to look the same for all members.

Attention: These settings are set for a specific server. If you want to work with several servers in the same way, you must set identical settings on all of them.

To check or change your personal settings

Select  Settings in the top menu

The 'Settings' action form has a number of tabs where your personal settings are grouped together

Basic settings

Subsection ,Language':

Language: Select the language of your user interface from the menu offered.

Subdivision ,Representation

Display Theme: Select 'Black / White' for a less colorful interface or BSCW (Orange) to return to the default.

Save view settings for each folder individually: Check this option if you want to save the folder view settings individually for each folder. If this option is not in effect, the view settings for one folder will automatically apply to all other folders. For details, see 4.8.2 Folder views, especially the subsection on the scope of view settings.

Use internal PDF display for preview: If you open text, HTML and PDF documents in a BSCW preview (see previous option), enabling this option avoids possible problems with the preview that may be related to your browser settings, e.g. if these settings specify that such documents are always offered for download.

Subdivision ,Email

Email: Specify the format in which you want to receive messages from BSCW (especially the regular email reports about activities in your workspaces) and whether you want to automatically receive a copy of all email messages you send via BSCW (automatic entry of your email address into the BCC field; "blind carbon copy").

File handling

External editor programs: Select those document types for which direct editing with local (for BSCW external) editors should be activated. You may then edit documents of the corresponding type directly in BSCW without downloading the documents and uploading them again after editing. The Ein Bild, das Tisch, Hocker enthält.

Automatisch generierte Beschreibung Edit (Desktop) action opens the local editor (e.g. MS Word) corresponding to the document type directly from the Web browser. Direct editing requires the installation of a utility program on your computer. For installation instructions and further details, see 8.1.3 Edit documents with external editors.

Calendar / Document input

Timescale, start of week, working days: Specify how appointments should be displayed in the day and week view, which day is the start of the week and what counts as working days for you. This has an influence on the display of your calendars.

Tasks that you create, basically transfer to your document inbox: This refers to tasks that you are assigned as part of a workflow, such as a document release process or a flow folder. (see Workflow Management )

For dates you can determine,

whether appointments you have created yourself in a group calendar should be automatically copied to your personal calendar (even if you do not participate in it!),

whether appointments where you are uninvited should be automatically removed from your personal calendar,

whether to automatically cancel your participation in appointments that you remove from your personal calendar, and

whether appointments should be displayed in a new browser window.

Notifications

BSCW provides several event services that inform about new events in your workspaces and new microblog messages. The different services use different transmission paths for event and microblog message notification. For event services that you have enabled, you can subscribe to notification of specific event types (read items, new items, etc.) and message types. For details, see 4.6.4.1 Setting the default options for notification.

Subdivision 'Active Incident Services':

Here you can select by ticking those event services with which you want to be informed about new events and microblog messages.

Subscribed event types' subsection:

Here you can check the event types for the active event services, about which you want to be notified with the respective service. You can access the individual event types by expanding the menus for the individual services. You can also select all event types for a specific service.
